THE ICONOSTASIS OR
The ICON SCREEN

The Icon Screen of All Saints Byzantine Catholic Church. It represents the division between Heaven and Earth and reminds us that heaven is open to us. The royal doors, or royal gates (found in the center), remind us of the gates of heaven in which Jesus feeds in in the Divine Liturgy through His words (the Gospel) and His flesh (the Eucharist). The door to the left of the icon of Mary and Jesus and the door to the right of Jesus, are called the deacon doors. These doors are used by the servers, deacons, and priests, however, the royal doors can only be opened and used at appointed time during Divine Services. The priest is to be fully vested in order to go through them and the deacon can only go through them with the priest. The icon on the far right is called the Icon of All Saints and the icon on the far left is of St. Nicholas. Generally speaking in the Byzantine Church in America, the icon patronal saint or feast day (the name of the parish) is found on the right side next to the deacon door and St. Nicholas who is the patron saint of the Byzantine Catholic Church in America is found on the left side of the icon screen next to the deacon door as presently shown in the above picture.

Icon of Christ the Teacher

The Icon of Christ the Teacher is always found on the right side of the royal doors as shown here in the Byzantine Church. The icon reminds us of how Jesus will be returning to us as the teacher and Just Judge.

Icon of mary and the Child Jesus

The icon of Mary with Jesus is always found on the left side of the royal doors. This reminds us of how Jesus first came to us as a child and how we are too called to be childlike in our relationship with God.

The Holy of Holies

Just beyond the royal doors, you will find the Holy of Holies. Here in the altar area you can see the Tabernacle. This is the place in which Jesus Christ resides.

The Eucharist is reserved in the tabernacle for the sick of our parish and distributed to them as needed.
